Link Building for Accountancy Websites – Spread The Love
Posted by Marketing Man in Link Building,Marketing for Accountants,Online Marketing,SEO | September 26, 2012If you have been looking after the SEO for your accountancy firms website then you will no doubt have been link building for your accountancy website, this article is not designed to discuss the importance of link building rather it is to give you an insight in to how you should be building links to your website.
If you have been building all of your links to your website’s homepage then you need to read this article and make a few changes to your strategy. Just as a caveat, Google never comes out and directly tells anyone how their ranking algorithm works. Anyone working in the SEO industry will be basing their methods on lots of testing and research. If you want to improve the overall search engine positioning of your website, you need to share the wealth as far as your inbound links go. Let me explain further:
The majority of webmasters, especially those who are pretty new to internet marketing, tend to concentrate all of their link building efforts towards their homepage. Generally a homepage for a website will serve a number of functions and, as such, it can be very tricky to target it towards a specific keyword phrase, therefore a lot of the link building efforts are wasted. You are also restricting yourself greatly to the amount of keywords you will rank for and essentially putting all of your eggs in one basket as you can only conceivably rank your homepage for a couple of keyword phrases at a time.
A much better tactic is to bring your interior pages into play, and it is for this reason that we really recommend that you continue to build your website out with fresh content and new pages. A 2-3 page website will become increasingly harder and harder to rank in the search engines as competition grows.
Firstly, make sure you are using proper search engine optimisation techniques on your interior pages. It’s just as important to make use of keyword rich title tags, header tags, keyword rich body copy, etc. on interior pages as it is on your homepage.
Secondly, do some keyword research and identify complimentary keywords or keywords phrases for your interior pages. For example, if your homepage is targeted towards “Hartlepool Accountant” then you could set up an interior page to try to rank for a specific service, like “Hartlepool Tax Accountant” or “Business Advisors in Hartlepool”.
Once your number of pages grows and your link building efforts are now including these additional pages you need to make sure you are speading the link juice throughout your website with internal links. Make sure you are linking your pages together (preferably in content, rather than just a list of links in a sidebar) using your keywords as anchor text.
When investing time and money in link building, don’t focus all your efforts on your homepage. It is important to build links to your interior pages as well. You need to spread your SEO equity amongst all the pages on your website to get the best result and rank for the maximum number of keyword phrases available.
